The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is designed to provide the foundation for teacher
preparation leading to Missouri initial teacher certification and is approved by the
Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The MAT coursework requires
36 credit hours of core courses, including foundations, methods and clinical experiences
such as practicum and apprentice teaching, and 14 credit hours of field experience.
This program challenges students to house practice and instructional decision-making
in a strong philosophical foundation.
Through their teaching methods, Webster SOE faculty members demonstrate best practices
and research-based practice that students will learn to use themselves. Instruction includes collaborative teaching with each other and with faculty as they
model best practices. This program leads to teacher certification.

Adding a Webster’s Special Education master’s to your existing experience can help
you advance your career. You’ll gain expertise in curriculum, advocacy and collaboration
that will equip you for a leadership role within your current school or district,
or allow you to explore new educational opportunities. Some of our graduates have
used their Webster education to advocate for people with disabilities in community
organizations.
