When asked why he chose teaching and coaching, Smith shared, “I want to be a teacher
who inspires students and instills a love of learning. Coaching cross-country is another
way I can make a positive impact while pursuing that goal.” He believes that both
teaching and coaching can change students' lives for the better.
A dedicated runner throughout high school, Smith now competes on Webster University’s Men’s Cross-Country team, racing across the Midwest. According to him, the team trains every day except Sundays, fostering strong bonds among teammates.
As for why he chose Webster’s teacher preparation program, Smith called it “an absolute no-brainer.” The University allows him to balance his passion for running with his dream of becoming a teacher. He also praised the education courses, saying, “They’re preparing me very well for my future goals. I’ve already learned so much about teaching and about myself.”
When reflecting on key aspects of the program, such as mentorship, internships and professional networking, Smith shared these insights:
Mentorship
“The mentorship here is amazing. My academic advisor has been incredibly supportive, helping me navigate my options and take full advantage of what Webster has to offer.”
Internship
“I haven’t started an internship yet, but from what I’ve seen, this program provides incredible opportunities.”
Professional Networking
“There are so many amazing professors in the education department who genuinely want to see you succeed. They also have extensive connections, opening up endless possibilities!”
