Webster Journal Wins 14 Awards at MCMA Conference

Webster Journal students win awardsStudent-journalists of the Webster Journal earned 14 awards at this year’s Missouri College Media Association conference.

The Webster Journal is celebrating a winning weekend at the Missouri College Media Association’s (MCMA) annual conference.

The Journal earned second-place honors in the Best Overall Newspaper category, beating out much larger schools in its division.

The Journal also finished first in four categories:

  • Best Column, Styx Nappier
  • Best Entertainment Cartoon, Ethan Nieroda
  • Best Entertainment Review, Ethan Tarantella
  • Best Sports Writing, Gabrielle Lindemann

Other honors included:

  • Feature Writing, Chloe Sapp, second place
  • News Writing, Gabrielle Lindemann, third place
  • Entertainment Review, Elsa Connolly, third place
  • Entertainment Cartoon, Ethan Nieroda, third place 

In all, The Journal took home 14 awards from the MCMA conference, held April 12 on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

The Journal newsroom includes editor-in-chief Chloe Sapp, managing editor Styx Nappier, news editor Jaci Bethel, culture and lifestyle editor Emme Goelz, sports editor Sriram Chidambaram, student media manager Vanessa Jones and faculty adviser Trish Muyco-Tobin.

The Journal and the work of student-journalists on campus dates back more than 100 years, when the first regularly published newspaper at Webster made its debut Oct. 3, 1924.
