Kindermusik® Foundations

newborn - 18 months with a caregiver

40-minute class once a week for 14 weeks

Foundations classes provide a welcoming environment where caregivers connect and support each other, while babies explore and react to new sounds, sensations, and objects. Shared activities support baby's development and strengthen your connection with your child during this crucial time.

Hickory, Dickory, Tickle and Bounce
Share the stories and rhymes of your childhood with your own little one!  Research shows the more you expose your baby to nursery rhymes and songs, the stronger those emerging language-learning skills will be. 

Kindermusik Kit: a rhyming picture board book—Hickory, Dickory, Tickle, and Bounce, access to class music on the Kindermusik app, a baby fish shaker, and a set of Art Banners for the nursery wall. Kindermusik materials kit fees are non-refundable once materials are opened.

Session B:  March 16 - May 6, 2021 (weeks 8-14)

“The Rhythm of My Day”
Bring more rhythm and routine to your baby’s day! Learn how and why music can help your little one soothe into the day’s schedule and build a strong body and mind network for learning. 

Kindermusik Kit: The Rhythm of My Day—a colorful picture board book, access to class music on the Kindermusik app, baby’s first tambourine, and a set of Art Banners for the nursery wall. Kindermusik materials kit fees are non-refundable once materials are opened.

ACTIVITIES

  • Listening to and experiencing songs and rhymes
  • Back-and-forth vocal plays and other parent-child interactions that build neural pathways in a baby's developing brain
  • Instrument play and introduction to basic music concepts such as high/low, fast/slow, and holding a steady beat
  • Baby-caregiver bonding exercises, including storytime, massage, and relaxation activities

SKILLS & BENEFITS

  • Increased balance and control over movements and strengthened core muscles
  • Development of basic gross-motor skills, fine-motor control, and coordination
  • Growing ability to recognize and follow patterns in music and move to a steady beat, fundamental skills that have been linked to math and language

Kindermusik® Level 2

18 months - 3.5 years with a caregiver

40-minute class once a week for 14 weeks

Our Level 2 classes encourage older toddlers to initiate their own ideas and explore their creativity.  Each class offers plenty of fun outlets for toddler-style energy, promoting cognitive development through singing, dancing, and instrument play.  Better still, you'll have the opportunity to connect with other parents and caregivers who are also experiencing the joys and complexities of these busy years, while learning to use music to create and simplify routines at home.

Spring 2021: “Fiddle-dee-dee” 

Quack with the ducks, sing with the donkeys, curl up like a mouse and roll over with Rover! We’ll explore how music-making and movement combine to help children develop physically, cognitively, and emotionally.

Kindermusik Kit: two interactive storybooks—This Little Piggy Played the Fiddle and Animal Serenade, a Home Activity Book, and a pair of green Fiddlestick instruments, all packed in a dog-house shaped carry box, access to class music on the Kindermusik app.

 

ACTIVITIES

  • Exploring movement concepts and participating in musical interactions
  • Discovering different ways instruments can make sounds and experiencing a wide range of musical concepts
  • Identifying and vocally imitating sounds and learning to describe them
  • Learning to associate a picture with a sound
  • Singing songs with language patterns that explore rhythm, speech sounds, syntax, and rhyme

SKILLS & BENEFITS

3.5 - 5 years with a caregiver

45-minute class once a week for 14 weeks

Level 4 classes offer children exciting first experiences with musical symbols and more complex instruments, laying the groundwork for formal music instruction.  You'll join the fun and watch as your child begins to master music terms and concepts, building a strong foundation for learning in other subjects like math, reading and writing.

Spring 2021:  “Jazz Kitchen,” “Drums, Drums, Drums,” and “Jumping Beans” 

Throw in a half a cup of movement with a generous cup of beat.  Next, stir in some vocal play, gently fold in some exciting instruments, and you have the perfect recipe for a musical adventure!  Through the rhythms of jazz and world music your child will learn to recognize patterns, understand the relationship between sound and symbol, and use rhythmic notation to compose their own patterns.

Kindermusik Kit: 3 magazine-style family guides with stories, jingle stick, hand drum, panpipe, and access to class music on the Kindermusik App.

ACTIVITIES

  • Listening to a variety of sounds, including music from individual instruments and complete compositions that highlight specific genres, cultures, composers or concepts
  • Playing instruments with an emphasis on steady beat, repeated rhythm patterns, graphic notation, and ensemble music
  • Experiencing various types of movement including creative movement, group dances and movement that explores concepts like high/low or staccato/legato
  • Singing a variety of songs in an appropriate range
  • Introduction to music concepts and vocabulary

With older children ready to show the little ones how it's done and the younger ones eager to learn, a mixed-age class becomes a multi-layered learning environment.  Activities encourage discovery and exploration, and foster social skills too as children strengthen their ties with each other and you.  Whether you have two or more children of different ages or simply prefer a mixed-age setting for your child, come see just how far music and together time can go!
