The Beauty and the Power of the Written Word
Webster University’s English Department puts you in conversation with the best things human beings have ever said. Through deep engagement with literature — canonical, contemporary, multiethnic, global — our students find their own voices and learn how language can change the world.
Through your coursework with us, you’ll also learn vital skills — like communication, critical thinking, teamwork, empathy, analysis — that will help you advance in most any career field. Explore below to learn more about our discussion-oriented and student-focused curriculum.
Moving to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences
When the College of Arts and Sciences branches into two new innovative and collaborative colleges this June, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) will house Webster’s core humanities and social science programs and provide students and faculty members with greater opportunities to collaborate.
The English Department, Reimagined
We’ve recently redesigned our Creative Writing, Drama & Playwriting, and English majors to match students’ interests and meet students’ needs: small, discussion-based classes; experiential learning; dynamic and relevant course offerings. Our students publish; edit; attend and present at national conferences; intern with exciting companies; and go on to rewarding careers.
