BFA in Technical Direction

Technical Direction students strive to find innovative solutions to technical problems -- all in a professional theatre environment that demands operations and scenery of the highest standards.

The first year of the program parallels that of design students, ensuring a balance of classroom work and practical application.

In the upper division, students study advanced technical production, welding, materials, theatre management, theatre building design and, where appropriate, stage management. Students in their third or fourth year work in internship programs with other theatres, manufacturers and designers, where possible.

The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis professionally staffs all the shops on campus during the day, with students staffing them in the evening.

The on-campus presence of the Repertory Theatre, Opera Theatre of St. Louis and Dance St. Louis provides students with a professional working environment.
