Tara McCarthy

B.A., Webster University, 1990; License of Cosmetology, LaPlante School of Hairstyling, St. Louis, MO, 1993; Masters in Arts Education, University of Illinois, Champagne/Urbana, 2004. At Webster since 2007.

Tara received her Bachelors of Art from Webster University in 1991, where she studied printmaking and sculpture. After completing her B.A., she went on to obtain her cosmetology license and worked in several salons before focusing entirely on work in theatre, film and television while living in Chicago, Illinois. Her experience there included work as a hair and makeup artist on over 12 feature films, numerous touring Broadway shows, and television. Some of her theatre credits include work on The Lion King, The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular, Beauty and the Beast, Les Miserables, The Nutcracker (Joffrey Ballet), and Showboat. Some of her film and television credits include work on ER, Early Edition, The Road to Perdition, Ali, Save the Last Dance, Soul Survivors, The Visitors, Light it Up, Stir of Echoes, White Boys and The Negotiator. She also worked for over five years as the acting wig and hair stylist for Steppenwolf Theatre and while there designed the hair and wigs for the Tony Award winning “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” In 2004, after being awarded a full assistantship to the University of Illinois in Champain/Urbana, she completed her Masters in Art Education. While attending the University of Illinois, Ms. McCarthy worked as a teaching and research assistant, art instructor, slide archivist, and advisor to elementary education students. In 2005 she and her family relocated to St. Louis where she now looks forward bringing her skills, experience and enthusiasm to both the Conservatory and the Rep.
